How to order your film to be developed and/or scaned

To order your scans there are three simple steps.

1. Print and fill out an order form for the film that you wish to be developed and/or scanned.

2. Ship your film (preferably in a box or padded envelope) to the address on the order form.

3. Once we receive your film we will review your order form and email you (make sure your email is legible) an invoice for the work to be preformed along with an estimate for the delivery of your scans. (You can pay with any major credit card)

We develop your film, scan it to the specifications you indicated on your order form, edit the scans if desired, and email you a link to start your download. If you have requested us to mail back your negatives we flat rate send them back to you immediately or hold them until you have accumulated 3 month of orders before we send them back. If no preference is given or you have elected to destroy the negatives we will do that within two weeks.

It’s that simple.

Frequently asked questions

"What is the difference between a PREMIUM scan and a basic scan"

Premium scans are color corrected in the scanner when the scan is made as well as being corrected further in Lightroom and/or Photoshop. Premium scans are a finished product that you should be able to deliver straight to your client without further enhancements and time spent by the photographer. Premium scans are great for the busy photographer who would rather spend his or her time shooting and not behind a computer editing scans.

Basic scans are made with all corrections for density and color made at the scanner itself and is not further corrected in Lightroom or Photoshop. This is a cheaper alternative to the Premium scan and allows the photographer greater control to apply their own aesthetic and style to their work. Basic scan are however good scans and may not need further correction.

"how long does it take to receive my scans"

Typical turnaround time for for Basic scans is 5 business days from the date you pay your invoice. Premium scans take a day or two longer.

"what is the difference between Noritsu and fuji scanners for 35mm film"

There is not a ton of difference between the Noritsu and the Fuji Frontier. The Noritsu scanner has a little less contrast and subsequently retains and has softer highlights than the frontier. The images are slightly flatter and the Noritsu as well as having a little more emphases on the green and magenta channels. The Fuji Frontier has a little more contrast, handles over exposed images better and has a little more emphases in the blue and yellow channels. With basic scans on the Fuji, you may find your images to be a little more warm temperature wise.

"can you process slide film locally"

Not at this time.

"Can i set up a color pac with you so my scans look relatively the same each order"

Yes. Give is a call and email us some examples of images you like. We will try to match a look you prefer and consistently provide that with you for each order moving forward.

"How will i get my scans"

Once your film has been developed and scanned, You will receive an email to the address given on the order form (make sure it is legible). That link will be active for 2 weeks at which time you will be able to download your scans. If you wish for your scans to be delivered via a USB drive, include a drive when you mail in your film and we will mail back the drive once the scans are complete along with your negatives if desired.

"What do you do with the negatives"

That is totally up to you. If you don't want them back we will destroy them after 2 weeks. If you wish for them to be mailed back immediately we can do that for a flat fee of $7. If you wish for us to hod on to your negatives for 3 months while you submit other orders we can do that as well and mail them all back at the same time for $7.

Shipping of Negatives and drives

All negatives and drives are shipped priority mail flat rate at $7.00 a shipment. If you wish for your negatives to be held for up to 3 month while your orders accumulate, we can do that too and we will put as many orders as necessary into each box to save on shipping.
